The newest hotel to be added on-site is this Caribbean-inspired resort hotel. It is reminiscent of an estate in the tropics. The 16,000 square foot, resort pool is surrounded by cascading waterfalls. Guests are surrounded by a vivid haven that is old-world and chic while still modern and timeless. It is an island escape in the heart of an unforgettable adventure.

This is the newest addition. I have eaten at all of the restaurants (yes, I LOVE food) and I have toured the rooms and played at this hotel. I have a stay planned for this hotel this coming summer. I already know I love the location and amenities (including a fully stocked gym) so I can’t wait to enjoy the rooms as well.

Hard Rock Hotel

Live the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle at the exciting Hard Rock Hotel. You’ll feel like a big shot  with amazing accommodations, just like a celebrity. It is lively, yet laid back. Classy, yet totally casual. They have an awesome sand beach pool that immerses you in sound, not just water; authentic memorabilia and all the food you crave. You don’t have to be a rock star to stay at Hard Rock Hotel. But after just a few hours, you’ll definitely get used to living the lifestyle.

I have not had the pleasure to stay here… yet. I have enjoyed the pool and restaurants on several occasions and thoroughly enjoyed my time. Teenagers especially enjoy the pool area with the UNDERWATER sound system. Maybe next year I try a new spot 🙂

What Was New For Family Forward 2016 & Forever Favorites

This year Family Forward had several new things to see and do. Between the new things and taking my daughter with me (first time I brought any family to Family Forward – I know it sounds strange) it was a whole new experience.

VIP Lunch

vip-tour-9

Last year was my first time participating in the VIP Tour during Family Forward. I already knew that VIP was the way to go but with the addition of this amazing lunch spot the experience has gotten even better. The VIP lunch inside of Cafe La Bamba is ONLY for VIP tours. The meal consisted of signature items from the restaurants located in both of the Universal Orlando Resort theme parks. It was a great treat to not have to choose between our favorite places to eat! It included drinks and a dessert buffet!

Volcano Bay

Even though it is not ready to go yet we received a preview look and presentation all about Volcano Bay. The idea behind this all-new, adventure-drenched water theme park is that there’s no standing in long lines. No wrestling with tubes. No waiting for the fun to begin. It’s a tropical paradise just steps away from everything Universal Orlando Resort has to offer. I seriously CAN. NOT. WAIT. to go next year!

Loews Sapphire Falls Resort

The newest addition to the on-site hotels is Sapphire Falls. The Caribbean-inspired Loews Resort hotel transports guests to paradise where blue waterfalls cascade across lush grounds, and the invitation to cool relaxation is everywhere. We ate at both of the restaurants in the hotel and enjoyed the options that they provided so that everyone in our group had something that they liked.

Wordless Wednesday: Honeydukes at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter (Hogsmeade)

A must-stop when in Hogsmeade, Honeydukes has shelves that are lined with all manner of delicious treats. Acid Pops, exploding bonbons, Cauldron Cakes, treacle fudge, Fizzing Whizzbees, and Chocolate Frogs – just to name a few. Inside the shop you can fill up a bag of Bertie Bott’s Every-Flavour Beans and who knows what tasty (or not so tasty) flavors you’ll discover! The shop also offers other classic favorites such as chocolates and fudge.

Jurassic Park and Skull Island @ Islands of Adventure #FamilyForward

IMG_7598

During Family Forward I spent quite a bit of time in the Jurassic Park area of Islands of Adventure. Last year when I was there I don’t think I ever walked into the area aside from the opening night dinner! Having been one of my favorite movie franchises growing up, I was ecstatic when the new movie came earlier this year. Of course I saw it several times in the theaters before heading to Universal in Orlando.

IMG_7599

The area really has a fun set up that is great for the whole family. With water rides, good shopping (I got my son’s souvenir in this area), Jurassic Park Discovery Center, and a great restaurant you can spend a good chunk of a morning here.

IMG_7900

In the Jurassic Park Discovery Center you can unearth the mysteries of the planet’s prehistoric past in this hands-on interactive activity center. The Jurassic Park Discovery Center combines entertainment with education in a variety of informative exhibits and displays geared to children and adults.

IMG_7601

Right next to Jurassic Park, Islands of Adventure is adding a brand new ride, Skull Island: Reign of Kong! Here is a picture of what it looks like as of the beginning of September 2015. 1 year and it will be open! I can’t wait to check out this new experience!

IMG_7606

From the Universal website: As you journey deep into a mysterious island, your 1930’s expedition is swarmed by enormous prehistoric predators. Your only hope is the most colossal ape ever to walk the earth. As the gargantuan beasts fight for dominance, you will just fight to survive. Skull Island: Reign of Kong – A multi-sensory, multi-dimensional new ride for your life. Coming Summer 2016 to Universal’s Islands of Adventure at Universal Orlando Resort.

Mike West from Universal Creative confirms that the story line of the attraction has no “direct connection” to the events of Peter Jackson’s 2005 film, though Peter Jackson did work with Universal Creative for the attraction development. This is also not a prequel attraction to the new Skull Island film coming out in 2017.  The Skull Island: Reign of Kong ride will tell it’s own unique story.

I can’t wait!

Blue Man Orlando vs Blue Man NYC Family Forward

I have seen the Blue Man Group six times in three different cities and it never gets old! This year alone I have seen them twice, once in New York while attending Blogger Bash and once in Orlando last week while I was attending and working at my second Family Forward Orlando conference with Mom It Forward. (I went last year as well.)There are similarities and differences in the show depending on the city but it is always a good time no matter where you are!

Blue Man Group combines music, technology and comedy to create a show of epic entertainment that appeals to people of all ages. Blue Man Group’s shows have been described by critics as “innovative”, “energetic”, and “wildly entertaining”. The only way to truly understand Blue Man Group’s AWESOMENESS is to see the show for yourself. Even though most of the show is the same there are certain special pieces that are added just for each location. One of the best things about seeing Blue Man Group is that it appeals to all ages, so it is perfect for Family Forward where the whole family is traveling together! Kids will enjoy the lights, color and spectacle, fun and mess. Adults enjoy the humor, social commentary and characters.

Blue Man New York – ASTOR PLACE THEATER

IMG_20150716_130042

The location in NYC is the smallest theater that I have seen BMG perform. The location is the most unique difference from the other locations across the country. Designed in the Greek Revival style, the Astor Place Theater is the original home to Blue Man Group in NYC. Originally constructed in 1831.  Located in New York City’s “NoHo” neighborhood. The theater is by far the smallest that I have ever been in to see a show. The main benefit to the small space is that you really feel like you become part of the show. In this space the men are able to explore the audience and interact so much more with everyone. Everyone feels like a VIP because even from the back row you are very close to the stage. BONUS: When I saw the show in NYC they encouraged us to take pictures as I was with a group of bloggers and social media influencers.

Blue Man Orlando – The Blue Man Group Theater

20150905_180914

Blue Man Orlando is by far my favorite location to see this fun show. It is a large theater that holds just Blue Man Group, and it is located right on City Walk so it is in a perfect location if you are in Universal Studios for the day before or need to go out to eat after the show.

Last week was my second time seeing the show in this location and it did not disappoint. I started out extremely tired (from my VIP day at Universal) when I sat down to watch the show. But within 20 minutes I had a Blue Man in my face exploring the VIP name-tag around my neck with me giggling and wide awake! By the time the colored balls, strobe lights, and toilet paper fell I was up on my feet dancing and feeling my second wind! This theater DOES NOT allow photography (no matter who you are with) so just don’t try – trust me. They will ask you to put the camera away.

20150905_193530

So when your team member gets pulled up on stage don’t even grab that camera to sneak a picture….

Overall Blue Man Group is by far one of my highlights the past two years at Family Forward. It is a can’t miss if you are ever in the neighborhood check them out!

Sponsored Workshops Family Forward

Family Forward is a family retreat organized by Mom It Forward (the company that I work for) for social media influencers, including mom and dad bloggers and their families, and is focused on helping families connect in the digital age. While Family Forward is comprised of social media influencers, the focus of the retreat is to strengthen the digital family. The hands-on workshops and events are centered on making memories and teaching skills families can apply everyday.

Family Forward

Now in its 3rd year, the Family Forward event in Orlando offers the perfect way to grow stronger as a family, and make meaningful theme-park vacation memories. Family Forward gives families experiences, ideas, and skills to embrace bonding in the digital age through workshops centered on topics like charity, communication, creativity, team building, and trust.

To kick off Family Forward in epic fashion we had an opening party Thursday night hosted by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals with a Super Hero theme!

Families came in costume or dressed in capes and masks while completing several missions. We heard from Nathan, who has Mitochondrial Disease, (a degenerative disorder that attacks the mitochondria – the source that creates enough energy for the body’s systems to sustain function and support growth) and his mom. They are an amazing family who is so inspiring you can’t help but love them from the start!

DohVinci

The first session on Friday morning was with DohVinci, a returning sponsor. This year each family worked together to create 3-D artwork on paper, wood, plastic, and foam. It is such a fun and creative craft. You choose your color, place it in the styler, add a stamp shape or not, then just squeeze so the dough comes out. And guess what? It dries after awhile, leaving your designs permanent for all to see! I gave some to my girls last year and we spend a whole rainy Saturday having a great time crafting together.

DohVinci

Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines

Next we had a sponsored lunch thanks to Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. They served some festive Caribbean food along with some favorite eats for the kids (I am guessing you know which buffet I ate off of). They even served their famous Mac&Cheese. It was so good that we had to meet the chef and have a picture taken! RCCL hosted a twitter contest during lunch just for our attendees and gave away a 7 day cruise to anywhere that RCCL sails! The winner was ECSTATIC to say the least! They also had a special guest show up to pose for pictures!

Monsanto

Last up for the day was Monsanto who hosted a series of hands-on activities to help families explore how DNA shapes all living things, including fruits and veggies grown through traditional plant breeding. The kids took strawberries and got to extract DNA and look at it under microscopes! It was a very fun and educational hour!
